Education Strike debate 14th of February 2016
Submitted by A-ryhmä on 2 February, 2016 - 04:35In Kupoli, Mannerheimintie 7 b 7th floor.
The Porthania squat of September 2015 began the Education Strike movement that also spread to Turku, Tampere, Joensuu and Jyväskylä. On December 1st, there were demonstrations around Finland, in Helsinki the university main building was squatted on, and in Turku, the Porthania squat's record for the the longest-standing university squat in the history of Finland was beaten. For the first time in the history of the student movement in Finland, it would seem, multiple buildings were squatted on simultaneously in several cities.
However, the planned education cuts have not been canceled, and in January, the University of Helsinki announced that it would be sacking 570 employees as the result of negotiations. How should the anti-education cut movement continue functioning under the current circumstances?
Food will be served from 4 pm onwards and the debate will begin at 4:30 pm. The discussion will be opened with 5-minute speeches by activists of the Education Strike movement, after which there will be general discussion on the future of the anti-education cut movement. Students, university staff and everyone interested in the future of the anti-austerity movement are all welcome to attend!
Children are welcome. We have now also a separate room in case children get tired of lecture. Prams can be left in the hallway on the 6th or 1st floor.
Kupoli is inaccessible space.
There is one small step at the downstairs front door, and an elevator that runs between from floor 1 to 6. Kupoli is on the 7th floor after a staircase.
There are two searate, rather spacey but not wheelchair-standardized, unisex toilets. There are stairs between Kupoli and wc.
