Capitalism and markets have always been fought back. Reforming and countering market mechanisms has brought about welfare and innovation for example in all Nordic countries, but inherent problems of capitalism have not disappeared.
Markets centralize wealth, force people into poverty and foster strife and competition between people. At the same time, markets help propel the greatest environmental catastrophe humanity has ever faced - planetary climate change.
Antti Jauhiainen (http://twitter.com/anttiveikko) and Joona-Hermanni Mäkinen (http://twitter.com/joonahermanni) from Parecon Finland will talk in Kupoli about resistance to capitalism in Finland. The talk will cover history of anticapitalism, problems of anticapitalism and opportunities and strategies to build a free economy without markets.
Our speakers are Finnish and international anti-authoritarian researchers and activists. Events are organized in cooperation with A-ryhmä and AutOp. You may also follow lecture online (both real-time and recording) from youtube-channel of A-ryhmä:https://www.youtube.com/user/AryhmaHelsinki Our program is created by the participants themselves, if you want to join or simply get in contact, write a-ryhma at riseup.net.
There will be a party after lecture! About the band:
"Name of the band will be "duo härmä" (guitar and oud-buzuki) and we will play greek rembetiko tunes from the 30-40's infused with contemporary radical music from the 80-90's."
Children are welcome to any events of A-ryhmä by default! We have now also a separate room in case children get tired of lecture. Prams can be left in the hallway on the 6th or 1st floor.
Kupoli is inaccessible space. There is one small step at the downstairs front door, and an elevator that runs between from floor 1 to 6. Kupoli is on the 7th floor after a staircase. There are two separate, rather spacey but not wheelchair-standardized, unisex toilets. There are stairs between Kupoli and WC.
